Nature Park "Orjen" is located in the extreme south of Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the territory of the city of Trebinje. The area of the park is 16,716 ha, which makes it the largest protected area in the Republic of Srpska. The altitude ranges from 290 m, that is, from Lake Trebinje to Velika Jastrebica, which is the highest peak of Orjen in the Republic of Srpska (1865 m). By the way, the highest peak of the Orjen massif is Zubacki kabao (1894 m) and is located in Montenegro.

The protected area is characterized by a relief created by the work of various agents, the most prominent of which are karst and glacial forms. One of the most significant remnants of the Ice Age is the Dobri do glacial wave, created by the work of the glacier between the ridges of Velika Jastrebica and Buganje greda. The specific geographical location and proximity to the Adriatic Sea resulted in a large amount of precipitation, which is one of the reasons that the glaciation process on Orjen took place already at an altitude of 1,300 m above sea level. Today's relief is predominantly influenced by karstification, which is reflected in numerous surface and underground forms, such as scarp, stone deserts and speleological objects, of which vertical, cave-type objects are more common.

A total of 262 types of mushrooms were registered in the area of Orjen. The list of flora of this area includes 1088 taxons, of which 156 taxons are endemic. Munika forests represent one of the most famous attributes of the mountain and the trademark of the entire nature park. They are endemic and relict stands of a tree species that is a subendem of the southern Apennines and southeastern Dinarides. Also, the special value of the park is represented by the Illyrian beech forests, the southernmost beech forests of the Republic of Srpska.

87 species of birds, 17 species of fish, 7 species of amphibians, 10 species of reptiles and 14 species of mammals have been registered in the protected area. The presence of significant species of large animals, bears and wolves, is highlighted.
