Szentendre, quietly rising above the Danube, has been a witness to the history and spiritual strength of the Serbian people in Hungary for centuries. Its churches, streets and artistic heritage bring together layers of history, faith and culture, which have shaped the identity of a community far from its homeland, yet deeply rooted in its roots

As the seat of the Diocese of Buda, Szentendre has become one of the most important spiritual centers of Serbs in this part of Europe, a place where the Orthodox faith, language and cultural heritage have been preserved for centuries. Today's Szentendre, as if frozen in time - is a place of picturesque streets, colorful facades, marzipan and muscat, garden restaurants and rooms for the night, but for the Serbian people it is much more than a tourist destination and picnic area. It is a place of pilgrimage and a memory of the bright two centuries of rise and progress of our people... How important this town, located about twenty kilometers from Budapest, was an important stronghold of Serbs in Hungary is still evidenced today by numerous monuments, cemeteries, iconostases, museum objects, the crown of the town are the churches. A large part of these material traces of the past belong to the very peak of Serbian Baroque art and occupy the most important places in anthologies of cultural heritage. Because of all this, Szentendre holds a unique place in Serbian spiritual culture.

This commemorative postage stamp represents a sign of respect for the city that remains a symbol of the durability, catholicity and spiritual unity of the Serbian people and which pays tribute to Szentendre as a lasting symbol of the spirituality, culture and historical memory of the Serbian people in Hungary.
