Embroidery from Zmijanje is surely one of the most specific and most typical embroidery from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The specificity of this embroidery is reflected in the fact that the wealth of ornamentation, production technique and color unique and special compared to other embroidery in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Specificity of Embroidery from Zmijanje is manifested in compliance, harmony and stylistic perfection geometric ornaments interlaced with dark blue or blue colors. Unlike other parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina where the embroidery on the costumes are presented in four or two colors, embroidery from Zmijanje is only shown in dark blue. Embroidery from Zmijanje is done in four techniques of embroidery: prorlak, podvlakno, prutalacka and cross techniques. From the above dominating cross technique of embroidery. All of these embroidery are classified by the number of moorings that the Jelica Belovic Bernadzikovska (the most eminent expert in research of embroidery in the Balkans) consider as the oldest techniques. The main feature of these techniques is to embroider from the back, counting the wire. Embroidery from Zmijanje is shown in artistic creativity, inner symbolic creativity and sensitivity that is centuries possessed by women from Krajina in their temperament and spirit. They expressed their emotions and feelings of inner state of mind by embroidery.
Geometric designs are the primary ornamental composition of embroidery from Zmijanje. These are the oldest ornaments and origin from Neolithic art. Of all the ornaments that are observed in embroidery from Zmijanje the most specific ornament is ornament of wheel and modified geometric ornament of rhombus.
