Three Olympic gold medalists in Munich Abbas Arslanagic, Milorad Karalic, Dobrivoje Selec (missing Nebojsa Popovic) laid on 24th of September 1972 the cornerstone of future sports arena. Opening ceremony of "Borik" was held on Saturday 20th April 1974. After a beautiful ceremony played a primary Borac handball match - Vitex and showcase a basketball game Young Krajisnik - Bosnia.
First title in the newly opened arena, brought boxers of Slavija, and shortly after that handball club “Borac” became champion of Yugoslavia.
The greatest success achieved by Borac handball, on the historic 11th April 1976 became the champions of Europe, defeating Denmark federation.
It is worth mentioning and success of boxer Marijan Benes who has become a professional champion of Europe, while Drazenko Ninic won the same title in kickboxing.
Also "Borik" hosted numerous world and European festivals. It took place on European Championship in women's volleyball, basketball Cup final "Radivoje Korac", European basketball championship, European championship in karate for men and women, the World Bowling Championships, Junior World Handball Championship ...
Arena is decorated with Olympic arch set in the honour of Banja Luka's eight Olympic gold medalists: Abas Arslanagic, Nebojsa Popovic, Milorad Karalic, Dobrivoje Selec, Zdravko Radjenovic, Zlatan Arnautovic, Ante Josipovic and Toma Knez.
Football Tournament, which is played continuously since 1976, has become a trademark of Banja Luka and the arena "Borik".
