''Walter Defends Sarajevo'' is a Yugoslav partisan film from 1972, directed by Hajrudin Krvavec, and written by George Lebovic, Momo Kapor, Hajrudin Krvavec and Sava Predja, while the film was produced by Hidajet Calkic. The film presents a free interpretation of the biography of a real anti-fascist fighter from the Second World War - Vladimir Peric Valter.

The title and his anthological role were interpreted by Bata Zivojinovic as Walter, while in other roles there were acting legends of the former Yugoslavia - Ljubisa Samardzic, Rade Markovic, Dragomir Gidra Bojanic, Neda Spasojevic, Pavle Vujisic ...

"Walter Defends Sarajevo" is an exciting, action-packed, detective story about Sarajevo illegals and their leader, partisan intelligence officer - Walter. This war film is the most popular partisan-war film made in socialist Yugoslavia and after half a century it is a cultural phenomenon. It is a reminder of the glorious time of Yugoslav cinema. At the time, partisan films were Yugoslav westerns and followed patterns of the popular American genre.

This film story has managed to outlive its time and its ideologically defined context. It is a film that tells the universal story of the struggle between good and evil and a film that glorifies positive human values. It represents a paraphrase of a mysterious life and the need for a cult of personality that can bring salvation. The film lines "The Shooter calls Condor", "Das ist Walter" and the courier password "The air flickers like the sky is burning, a storm is brewing", are sentences that are deeply woven into the memory of every inhabitant of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the region and beyond and have become part of and the way several generations communicate.

According to some free estimates, the film was watched by billions of people, because it developed incredible popularity in China as well. It is still watched today with the same adrenaline and attention as it was fifty years ago.
