People of Nevesinje had a pressing need to, in the summer, in the field called Bratacki grove, gathers after strenuous work after harvesting crops. In a time before Nevesinje rifle, Bratacki grove end Nevesinje became a battleground in the traditional and knightly disciplines.
Nevesinje Olympics is the continuation of horse racing in this Bratacki grove, tradition for more than a century, which annually gathers tens of thousands of visitors and cultivated a tradition over the modern Olympic Games. Nevesinje battleground in the field has become a symbol of chivalry, love, friendship, famous hospitality of Nevesinje and popular assemblies in order to keep from forgetting.
This year 138th Nevesinje Olympics will be held from 11th to 18th August and athletes from the region will compete in more than 30 disciplines. The most attractive discipline that carries the most valuable prize, horse racing Bosnian mountain, horses and Arabian and Thoroughbred horses. Planned competitions are in football, basketball, handball, chess, athletics events, beach volleyball and fishing.
The event is accompanied by a series of cultural and tourist attractions such as art encounters, food fair and hand made crafts, festival of young bards and Olympic quiz as the Feast of the August so recognizable in the region.
Side by others both amateurs and professionals, young and old, and viewers select their own heroes. They do not have to be the fastest or the strongest, but they must possess the spirit of sport and a little bravery and chivalry.
